Injectables

Regardless of the steps you take to pamper and preserve your skin, eventually everyone gets wrinkles. Luckily, there are many ways you can minimize and eliminate the signs of aging. Kahului plastic surgeon Dr. Yu offers the following non-surgical injections to help you look your best.

Botox®

Botox® is perhaps the simplest and most popular of all injections. Maui plastic surgeon Dr. Yu uses Botox® to remove or soften the frown lines between your eyes, the crow’s feet around your eyes, and anywhere muscle activity causes wrinkle lines on your face.

Wrinkles and creases are formed when the muscles beneath delicate skin around the eyes, nose, and mouth contract over and over. Botox® can be used to relax the muscles. Dr. Yu uses a very small needle to inject Botox® directly into the muscle that is causing the wrinkle. Essentially, Botox® keeps the muscle from contracting by impeding the nerve impulse. Gradually, the muscle relaxes, causing the facial wrinkles to soften or lessen.

Dr. Yu’s patients generally experience minimal discomfort during the treament. This sensation lasts from five to seven seconds. The entire treatments takes 10 or 15 minutes and you can get back to your day as soon as it’s over. Botox® injections last for about three to five months. Sometimes, a course of treatments will lengthen the amount of time that Botox® is effective. Some patients have found that they can see the results for as long as eight months.

Xeomin®
When you squint or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines.

Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) for injection, for intramuscular use, is a prescription medication used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults.

Xeomin® is popular because it works exactly the same and is a less expensive option than the other Botulinum Toxin type A product  currently on the market.

Perlane™
For moderate to severe wrinkles and folds on your face, Dr. Yu uses Perlane™ to restore the volume and fullness to your skin. Perlane™ is particularly effective in smoothing the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Perlane™ is made from hyaluronic acid, the same water soluble substance that is present in your joints. Perlane™ is a great way to look more rejuvenated without undergoing surgery.
Radiesse®
If you have tendency toward allergic reactions, Dr. Yu may recommend Radiesse® dermal filler to you. Radiesse® is a synthetic substance made of calcium hydroxylapatite, with no allergic reactions associated with it. Other advantages of Radiesse® include that is is long-lasting (up to three years) and can be used in the lips. This can be used to plump your cheeks and the backs of your hands to restore lost volume.
Restylane™
Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Yu uses Restylane™ to restore fullness to the skin and lips. Restylane™ is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that can be used to fill more superficial wrinkles and folds (such as those around the mouth and below the eyes).
Sculptra®
Sculptra® is a safe, synthetic injectable that is used to treat lipoatrophy, the loss of fat beneath the skin in the face. Lipoatrophy can make you look like you have hollow, sunken cheeks and other facial indentations. Dr. Yu injects Sculptra® beneath the skin. Gradually, Sculptra® will increase the thickness of the skin, significantly improving the appearance. This may require several treaments 4 – 6 weeks apart.
