Dr. Leonard Yu received his medical degree from Columbia University in New York City, a top Ivy League school recognized for its rigorous high standards and student excellence.
In addition to four years of med school, Dr. Yu completed a five-year residency in general surgery and a two-year fellowship in plastic surgery at The Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, a highly-esteemed Ivy League University.
He received his undergraduate degree from Amherst

Dr. Leonard Yu was appointed an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Florida where he taught plastic surgery for four years. In addition to the FIFTEEN years of education previously mentioned, his experience also included managing complex cancer and emergency traumatic injuries in Philadelphia and Florida.

Dr. Yu had to repair a massive facial injury where an injury incurred on a child who was kicked in the face from a horse. Following her surgery and recovery, this child became a nurse and wrote to Dr. Yu for motivating her life’s goal of taking care of other injured children.
Giving Back.
As part of his commitment to our Hawai’ian community, Dr. Yu and his wife support our community through contributions to the Maui fires, Maui Strong, the Maui Humane Society, the Maui Food Bank, Assistance Dogs of Hawaii, Imua Family Services, UH Maui Scholarship Fund, and other causes. Dr. Yu also donated his surgical expertise to Operation Smile which was featured in People magazine.
When not in the office, you’ll find Dr. Yu spending time with his wife and growing family, cooking up a Kalua Pork or venison stew, playing pickle-ball, gardening, puzzling, tinkering with some new project, and hanging out with his two dogs.

Dr. Leonard T. Yu has been the recipient of several grants and awards for his scientific work and has authored or co-authored over twenty articles and books on topics including nerve reconstruction, breast reconstruction, and breast implants. He has presented this information at over twenty national and international scientific meetings and has taught other surgeons during several national courses in breast reconstruction.
He is a co-holder of a patent on the use of Bioglass to stimulate bone growth.
